Born Obiora Nwokolobia-Agu in 1977, Obiwon discovered music at age 5 singing along to classic hip pop and RnB tapes played by his older brother. Since then, he has developed an eclectic Hip pop/RnB African Rhythmn which he brands JDImusic.
JDImusic is also the brand name of his label with an acronymn that stands for Just Divine Instincts. The third born in a family of four, Obi's musical heritage is easily traced to his father, Sir Humphrey Nwokolobia-Agu, a renowned Nigerian folk/classical music composer and arranger.
Obi's first music experiencal experience were born on stage performing at the University of Nigeria [NSUKA] where he was then known as black prince.
Born and bred in Enugu, Obi first started with the local rap group NRC (Nigerian Rap Syndicate) and later formed CCF (Coal City's Finest) with the rapper IllBliss. As a solo act, Obi generated buzz in the local show scene in eastern Nigeria with the likes of 2face and blackface in the early days of Nigerian urban music.
Obi moved to Lagos to seek greener pastures. The move to Lagos was also to enable him pursue his passion. Lagos gave birth to his alliance with the popular Nigerian Hiphop collective known as the Thoroughbreds
(B-Elect, IllBliss, Elajoe, Amaka, Obiwon and MGB of the streethop frame on MTV base).
Obiwon's musical influences include Alicia keys, john legend, late michael jackson, R kelly, NAS, lauryn hill, DJ Premier and celestine ukwu (a late Nigerian highlife maestro). Obiwon is a relentless songwriter, singer and producer.
